Giles Landscapes' Designer Scoops Silver & BBC Award

at Chelsea Flower Show

Giles Landscapes, the award-winning Welney based landscaping company, is celebrating garden designer Steve Hall's Silver Flora Medal win at the Chelsea Flower Show, announced early this morning (Tues 25th May).

Steve won the prestigious award together with the BBC Peoples’ Choice Award for his environmentally friendly Wildlife Trusts Gateway Garden in the Courtyard Gardens category of the show.

The design demonstrates to homeowners how to create a garden that supports the environment. Attractive features such as the Lych Gate and trellis - which were hand-crafted by Welney based carpenter Steve Kerr - a pool and slab-work paths give structure to the garden. Meanwhile the use of materials from sustainable sources, homemade compost and wildlife gardening using a mixture of native plants alongside cultivated varieties which are known to attract and support a wide range of wildlife, add colour and vitality to the scheme.

Steve Hall, who joined Giles Landscapes earlier this year, said:

'I am delighted to have won the Silver Flora and BBC Peoples’ Choice Award for my design. The Giles Landscapes team were fantastic and put in many, many hours to get the garden up and running, and I am so pleased that all their hard work paid off. The garden looks stunning, and has drawn a lot of attention because of its environmentally friendly bias, and I hope that it inspires people to develop small spaces for themselves, using sustainable resources and encouraging wildlife, even in towns and cities. Now we can start looking forward to next year's show!'

Roger Giles, Founder of Giles Landscapes, said:

' We are over the moon at Steve's win. His design shows that even small outside spaces can be turned into dazzling, environmentally friendly gardens that are both practical and pretty. The Giles Landscapes team has worked very hard to pull this off, and we are proud of all the work the lads have put in to this project. Steve Kerr's Lynch Gate makes a stunning centrepiece. We congratulate Steve and everyone involved, and are looking forward to celebrating their success!'

The Gateway Garden will be dismantled at the end of the Chelsea Flower Show and transplanted to the new visitor centre for Essex Wildlife Trust at Grays Thurrock in the Thames Gateway.
